Entrance to Villa Merton

A moderate sized portion of a former town mansion that is now a private club. Luckily you don’t need to be a member of the club to get a reservation for this 2 star Michelin restaurant. They presented us with a menu of two different tasting options however it is basically priced with how many courses you want and you can pick and choose between the menus and craft your own meal. We also chose to take their wine pairings with the meal which turned out to be a wonderful success.

The place specializes in local and seasonal ingredients and thus you’ll find a number of unknown ingredients that are a solution to not importing other’s products. It makes for some new tastes. Of the courses the duck and caramels were my absolute favorites but the cream cookie called for more when I finished it. I also enjoyed the combination of sugar and salt on the asparagus – something novel and successful. The food was artfully presented and the staff friendly and helpful. The selection of German wines astounded me with their accessibility and range of flavors. It’s a pricey spot but worth a visit, at least once!
