Quo Vadis is small place with about 8 tables in the dining room along with 5 stools at the bar.  Upstairs they have some party rooms as well as a private club space.   A couple tables are outside, if the weather cooperates.  One artist has provided graphics for their menu as well as doing large drawings for the dining room walls.  The tables are close and covered with white clothes and set with matching white napkins. A lower ceiling, no background music, lowered lighting and a large stained glass window that looks out to the street set a comfortable ambiance.  The place opened in 1926 as an Italian restaurant and in the 2000s became the cozy little place it is now.  The menu changes fairly regularly and it is only a la carte.   The portions are suitable for sharing and lots of sides are offered.  The staff are super friendly and enthusiastic.

The smoked eel sandwich was amazing.  The smoky eel was perfectly balanced by a horseradish sauce and pickled onions.  It’s been on the menu over 10 years and was served on toasted bread.  It was a bit difficult to split but not to be missed.

Baked salsify and parmesan was salsify cooked and coated with parmesan and then topped with more parmesan.  It was tasty and the salsify still had lots of texture.

Crab and mayonnaise was very mild.  The crab and mayo mixed perfectly and a nice crisp toast was served alongside if you wanted to spread it on there.  I might have preferred if the mayo would have been premixed with the crab for easier handling but this way it didn’t dilute the taste of the crab.  A pleasant taste in this nice dish.

Grilled middle white pork, spring vegetables and wild garlic was a main plate.  The pork was fine and had nice flavor but a tad lean and dry.  It was served alongside a mix of spring green vegetables – peas, fava beans, zuchinni, asparagus – but some were overcooked.  We ordered a side of Jersey Royals potatoes to go with the dish and they were excellent.

We also had Today’s Pie and Mash which was a chicken pie.  The pie was huge and came with a wonderful flakey pastry over the top.  The pie was filled with moist chunks of chicken and herbs in a creamy sauce and served alongside was a cup of mashed potatoes.  The potatoes were ordinary but the pie was divine.  We had a side of asparagus and butter sauce with this dish and the asparagus were nicely cooked but the butter sauce didn’t really make it for me.  It had a lot of lemon and vinegar in it that overshadowed the taste of the asparagus.

For dessert we had the Sticky toffee pudding and cream.  It was a moist cake surrounded by a brown sugar and butter sauce.  The ultra moist cake was sweet with chewy bits inside and was a total sweet fix.  This is another item that stays on their menu.

The Almond, chocolate and marmalade tart was served with ice cream and cream.  The crust was made of almond meringue and the interior was full of good textures and sweetness.  Another delicious ending to a very tasty meal.
