Messinn, Reykjavik, 7/29/17

Messinn is a large place that been here one year.  Interior dining is in several different areas and there are tables outside, if weather permits.  Pop music plays in the background, the tables are of bare wood, and napkins are paper.  Wood beams line the ceiling and murals of the sea and other nautical items provide the decor.  Service is efficient and helpful but not overly chatty.  The menu is small at lunch and specializes in pan-fried fish which are brought out in the skillet complete with greens and potatoes.  Portions are generous.  It’s not earth shattering food but it is quite good, quick and reasonable.

Frankie made friends with the hot plate

After ordering, a plate of yeasty bread and soft butter is brought to the table.  The bread has a nice chewy interior and crispy crust.

The Plaice was served with tomatoes, capers, parsley, lemon and butter.  The fish was perfectly cooked, tasty and very moist.  The potatoes were good and together with the other vegetables you have a complete meal in one pan.

The Artic Char was served with cherry tomatoes, lemon, butter and a sauce of honey and almonds.  The fish had been lightly dusted with flour and fried to a crisp exterior.  It was still very moist and the honey almond sauce was perfect with it.  Another tasty pan of food.
