The Parlor on Commerce, Dallas, 1/2/18

The Parlor on Commerce is a good sized bar in the Deep Ellum area of Dallas with food as well as drinks.  They’ve been open 13 months and the wine list is limited but they have a good supply of beers and hard liquors.  The kitchen also turns out some pretty tasty food to go for or to snack on while drinking.  The folks at the bar, bartender and guests, are super friendly and the place does have lots of counter seats as well as a number of tables.  The finish out of the interior has lots of interesting objects around as well as art.  The owner, Seth Byars, is a Star Wars buff so watch for some articles from that theme.  Also check out the boxcar flooring that was made into the bar counter and the basketball flooring that is now the bar’s flooring.

We tried a couple of their snack, chips and loaded queso which was queso with ground beef, pico de gallo and sour cream and the buffalo chicken skins which were with celery and ranch dressing.  The queso was thick but well seasoned and the chips have a nice heft with good corn flavor to hold up to the dip.  It is pretty tasty and a large portion.

The chicken skins are just that, puffed chicken skin topped with hot sauce and ranch dressing.  They are crisp and heavy.  I liked them but if you want to order a sandwich too I’d stick with the queso or even try something else.  I really appreciated having the option of some tasty snacks to munch on while you wait for your food.

For a sandwich we tried the Patty Melt which is served on sourdough bread with caramelized onions and American cheese.  It is gooey, greasy and great.  Next time I’ll ask for the meat a little rare but the patty packs a nice beefiness and a good balance with the cheese and onions.  And plenty of onions there are, as well as cheese that makes this a yummy sandwich and one to absorb plenty of their fairly strong cocktails.  Check it out!
