Lakewood Landing, An Upscale Dive, Dallas, 1/1/17

Lakewood Landing has been around a long time – I can’t seem to find out how long – but a while to be sure. The exterior is non-descript with a newish wooden patio facing the street that was added when the smoking ban happened and an iconic sign advertising their contradictory status of  being both “upscale” and a “dive”.  Inside is a long bar separated from the tables by a wooden railing, a separate room with couch and pool table, and the dining room with a few well used booths and standing tables.

Bar signs and reviews serve as decorations and they even have an old fashioned cigarette vending machine (smoking outside only).  While this sounds seedy it comes off as private, inviting and comfortable.  The staff couldn’t be nicer and they have a kitchen that kicks out some pretty decent food to go with a stiff drink, all at very reasonable prices. The menu is limited but also has good snack food offerings it you’re just looking for a place to drink and chat with a friend.  Be sure and note the cowgirl on the front of the menu, Lucille, who was a waitress there for 30 years but sadly passed away in 2011.

We ordered martinis which were made fast, served cold and only lacked in that they don’t carry my favorite gin.  For food we had the bacon cheeseburger (burger is 6 oz. beef with your choice of cheese and we added bacon)  and fries (sandwich comes with fries), a tasty burger adorned with a generous amount of smoky bacon and gooey cheese.  It was good to the last bite.  The fries were crisp and hot and again a generous helping.  A quick meal or a place to meet, this is a fun spot.
