Bobbie’s Airway Grill opened last summer in a Preston Hollow shopping center where a huge compounding pharmacy had been for years. The name combined the owner Robert Quick’s mother’s name (Bobbie) with part of the pharmacy (Airway) and ‘grill’ for the kitchen. The large space is quite modern and sleek with a large open kitchen in back of the huge bar which runs the length of the room. The couple levels of the rest of the space are fitted with cozy booths and white cloth covered tables. They do have the annoying custom of covering the nice cloth with a sheet of paper – maybe they take those off at night cause the place is definitely going for upscale. Art was on the walls and carpet on the floor to hopefully help with noise when its full. At lunch the noise was fine for conversation. The menu bills itself as serving American classics and it’s worth a visit if you are in the area. We met some friends there for lunch but I would bet we’ll be back to try their dinner where they have a few more choices, but either way it’s a pretty place with good food, just a tad pricey.

Food
The Oaks Dip was a sharp cheddar cheese dip served with Fritos. It had a bit of horseradish in the mix and I thought the flavor was good. It was a bit hard to scoop up with the chip so we ended up putting a portion of your bread plate and eating it off that. It’s a nice starter if you have a group.
Bobbie’s Caesar was made with Little Gem lettuce, crispy oysters, house made croutons and Reggiano. The 3 oysters were on top of the well-dressed lettuce with the croutons underneath. It was nicely seasoned and good. My only criticism here was that the croutons were quite large, too big to comfortably eat in one bite but really hard to cut.
The Moroccan Salad contained rotisserie chicken, dates, herbs, roasted carrots, pistachios and French feta. It looked wonderful and our dining companions pronounced it good.
The Crab Cake was made with jumbo lump crab and served over lemon dill sauce with a side of French fries. It’s on the pricey side with a cost of $39 at lunch ($45 at dinner) but crab has gone up in the store and this one was indeed solid crab meat without filler. Not sure how they held it together but it was wonderful. Browned to a nice crisp top it was placed on a buttery dill sauce that went with it perfectly. Yum. The fries that come with it were a very thin gauge cut and really crispy. Good potato flavor too, they held their crispness the entire lunch.
