DaLat, Dallas, 5/31/16

DaLat is a reasonably large place located in a quickly changing neighborhood. It offers a full bar, for drinking and eating, which is nice for singles. It is known for its late night hours as well an evening karaoke option, but it is also open for lunch. They have gone to a picture based menu which blends well with the quirky vibe.  The food isn’t standard Vietnamese but is the fused with some Texan and Mexican flavors.  An associated take out pizza place has opened next door, to further satisfy those late night cravings.

The place is decorated in a fun fashion and has a good condiment bar for you to customize your order. Service is friendly and efficient.  I’d check this place out if you have the chance but don’t go expecting standard renditions of your Vietnamese favorites – instead get a new take on old favorites and feel like you ate healthy and still got a bang of flavor.

For our lunch we started with the pork sausage and sticky rice which is big enough to split. It is quite good but this trip it was missing the pictured and listed fried onions, but it still got eaten up.

The Vietmex tacos are covered with a sea of lettuce, tomatoes, onions and peppers. They come with limes to season with and are available with a variety of meats. They were totally tasty and felt healthy to eat.

The vermicelli bowl also is available with a variety of meats and comes with lettuce, carrots, cilantro, vermicelli and a sauce which had a bit too much lime for me. Overall though, it is a tasty bowl of food when the ingredients are mixed together and a bit more hot pepper is added – but isn’t that the point of a condiment bar?
