Smalhans is a fairly small place that offers different menus throughout the day. We were there for lunch and you ordered at the bar, picked up your beverage, picked out your table and then they brought your food.  The guy at the counter was really friendly and helpful.  We chose their hamburgers, specifically bacon cheeseburgers.  They were wonderfully drippy with crisp flavorful bacon in a bun that slightly resembled an English muffin consistency.  They were sauced with a chili mayo and were quite delicious.

They didn’t have fries that day so we ordered the daily soup which was asparagus. It was adorned with bacon and chives and was very nice. The asparagus pieces that were in the soup were still crisp but tender. It had a good taste and consistency. I think they do offer an expanded and tasting menus in the evening. I would go back and try the tasting menu out if I get the chance.
