Outpost Sandwiches is open weekdays in downtown Tacoma and offers a variety of sandwiches, salads and also pizza but only on Fridays. It’s a hole in the wall place that’s underground near the courthouse. Parking is on the street as you can find it. Once you enter you’ll find the menu on a large sign and a window to order. Some wooden benches and tables are in front if you want to eat inside with as many eating there as taking orders to go. Music was in the background and the folks at the window will give you a code if you want to use the bathroom down the hall. It was quite busy but if you find yourself in town and need a quick snack I highly recommend the chicken melt and fresh baked cookies.
Set-Up

Food
The Club sandwich was warmed and included roasted chicken (or ham), bacon, cheese, lettuce and lemon herbed mayo on a toasted sourdough bread. This one was not as toasted as the other and contained way too much lettuce. The mayo was in good proportion and it all had good flavor but came off unexciting. Maybe it was lack of tomato or the balance being off due to the overwhelming lettuce.

The Chicken Melt contained roasted chicken, dry rubbed bacon, gouda cheese with tomato pesto and was served on toasted sourdough bread. This one had much more flavor, a lot due to the wonderful bacon and really tasty tomato pesto that soaked into the bread. The bread was quite nice but the halving of the sandwich was off, making it tough if you want to split it. Both had good breads but it was fairly thickly sliced. I’d easily eat this one again.

The Freshly Baked cookies were salted caramel flavor so of course I had to try one. They were crisp on the edge and soft in the center with a good amount of sweetness. A perfect dessert and big enough to split.

I’ve been seeing a lot of massive lettuce portions on sandwiches lately. Maybe it’s to give the impression of a badly overstuffed sandwich. I find myself removing lettuce to restore balance.
The cookie sounds perfect!
The cookie was the best. I too have noticed way too much lettuce on many sandwiches. I suspect you’re spot on with the reason but also hate what it does to the overall effect, especially the balance.
