building – 357 Sesuit Neck Rd, Dennis, MA 02638

Sesuit Harbor Cafe is a family owned business in its 26th season in the Northside Marina on Cape Cod Bay.  They serve breakfast and lunch daily from 7 – 2:30.  You order inside the building, decorated with boat bumpers, that also has lots of souvenirs for sale and then find a spot at one of the many picnic tables out back.   They call your number when your order is ready and bring it out to you.  Boats are parked nearby and run through the water beside you.  It is a cash only place.  It was quite popular with a combination of locals and tourists.  The food is prepared quickly and they have a number of non-seafood options if you’re so inclined.  We wanted to try their lobster roll as well as their whole belly clams.   It seemed like slightly less in the toasted bread than yesterday but lettuce was not mixed in.  It was mostly large chunks of meat but the mayo melded in some shreds.  The flavor was good.  Slaw was lightly dressed and fine and the fries were a coated variety.  I’d go again cause it’s a pretty place to sit and the food was nicely fresh and tasty.

The World Famous Lobster Roll($37.38) is their signature lobster salad on a grilled hot dog bun with lettuce and served with fries and slaw.  It was a good rendition.

Whole belly clams ($23.36) are not the “Howard Johnson clams” we grew up eating.  They have the belly attached and these had been nicely purged so there wasn’t the grit in them that I’ve had on less well prepared ones.  They definitely have a stronger flavor and I found the accompanying tartar sauce covered it up – not sure this was good.  It was a nice fryer coating and if these are your taste this was a well done version.

Onion rings ($9.35) were freshly made and delicious.  The onion adhered nicely to the light coating and retained its sweet flavor.  I’d get these again in a heartbeat.

  1. Boy did reading this bring back some memories. I grew up eating Howard Johnson’s clams and loved them! I had my first lobster roll in 2008. I went to Newport, Rhode Island with the Navy. I had never been that far in my life. I’ll never forget getting my rental car, getting on I-95 and seeing a sign that said south to New York! Couldn’t believe I was so far north NY was SOUTH! Had a few delicious lobster rolls at local, family owned restaurants, but unbelievably the best one was at a Blimpie’s on the Navy Base.

    1. Thanks! Fun memories. I grew up with HoJo clams and these are another thing entirely. I prefer oysters. And good crawfish or shrimp have more flavor than lobster and are way cheaper. Think you picked right to settle in NO but glad you got to experience the north. Blimpies had the best, seriously? lol!

      1. I got to my hotel in Newport near the navy base and checked in. I told the two girls behind the counter, “I’m from New Orleans and never had a lobster roll. I want one but don’t want to go where the tourist go. Where do locals go to get the best lobster roll”? At the same time they both said Anthony’s in Middletown, Rhode Island. It was like $19 and quite good! Felt weird walking into a restaurant in June that didn’t have air conditioning. Then one day I went into Blimpie’s at the food court on the base and saw lobster rolls for $11. You got two, maybe 4” buns, that they butter on the outside and grill, then take lobster salad out the fridge and put a nice scoop on each. They were great!
