The day we arrived at Twin Farms we were hungry and found lunch was still being served so we partook. They had a set menu some days usually as well as in-room dining options. Mostly lunch was in the windowed ‘porch’ room of the main house but you can request to have a picnic to-go. There are trails around the grounds where you could hike and eat but that’s not really my style so we ate in the dining room. The sommelier will arrange for wine pairings if you want or there is beer or cocktails if you want alcoholic beverages. Lunch can be ordered with smaller portions if you want to try more things but the server warned the kitchen was not good on cutting portions down. I found the ordered portions good since you were paying for 3 meals a day. There are not a lot of snacks sitting around like some places but your room has a basket of treats, both salty and sweet, if you need mid-meal extras. One thing I can assure you is that you won’t go hungry here. This is a post about the lunches we had this visit. If you want to compare to last fall’s selections click here.

Daily bread was fine but I can’t remember its specifics.

The Caprese salad had garden tomatoes, Maple Brook mozzarella and basil. The tomatoes were soft but had flavor and the cheese was excellent. It was a good mix.

The Shrimp cocktail was with a Mary Rose sauce and grilled lemon. The 3 large shrimp were nicely cooked and decorated with some scallion strings. Mary Rose sauce is a mix of tomato and mayo with various other seasonings. This was a very mildly flavored version so I added some grilled lemon to the mix which made if a nice light appetizer.

Blackened halibut tacos came with pickled cabbage, pico de gallo, arugula and sriracha aioli. The fish was on the dry side and salty to my tastes. The mix was fine but needed more than the mild pico de gallo seasoning.

The New England lobster roll was on a brioche roll, seasoned with lemon aioli and served with French fries. The buttery browned roll was stuffed with the lobster salad. It was not a lot of big chunks but the basic texture was there. It was best when eaten with the buttery roll. The fries were a baked potato that had been fried. This gives them a really crisp exterior with a soft, creamy center. They were a fine accompaniment.

Lunch today was a set menu, so no need to make choices. The daily bread was a biscuit that was delicious. It was crisp on the outside, soft on the inside and filled with marvelous flavor. I never could understand what they said was the seasoning but it was really good.

Beet salad was mixed with goat cheese and grapefruit and lettuce was on the side. The tender beets were great with the cheese and a few roast pecans on top added crunch. It was quite good and mixed nicely with the undressed lettuce leaves.

Roast chicken with potato purée and ratatouille was an excellent main dish. The chicken was cooked perfectly with the meat remaining moist and tender. The lovely sauce was great on the chicken and the mashed potatoes while the ratatouille mixed well with everything. A wonderful plate.

Apple pavlova had green apples on the inside of the meringue with glazed apples on top and their sauce floating down the sides. It was a fantastic dessert except for the red tuile on top that looked better than it tasted. Fun to have such a seasonal selection.

The daily bread was a white bread topped with black sesame. It was good.

The Almanac Farm barbecue smash burger was topped with onion strings, Vermont cheddar, argula, BBQ aioli and served with truffle potato wedges. It came on a very puffy brioche roll and was well topped with all the seasonings. It was cooked medium but had good beefy flavor. The potato wedges were good.

Fairmont Farm Lamb Merguez sandwich was on a baguette and topped with roasted garlic aioli, cucumber and herb salad and came with sweet potato chips. This was an excellent sandwich. The lamb was very well seasoned and had tons of flavor that all blended well with the cucumber, garlic and herbs, especially the mint. The bread was nicely toasted yet soft enough to bite through. I ended up making it an open face sandwich since there’s so much to eat. We both agreed the lamb was better than the burger. The sweet potato chips were thin, crisp and sweet. I liked them.

Brioche doughnuts came were seasoned with butternut squash and came alongside white chocolate and huckleberry gastrique topped with candied oats. These doughnuts were lovely. Crisp on outside where the glaze was and doughy sweet on the inside. The garnishes were fine but I mostly wanted to try those doughnuts and they were as good as hoped.

The freshly spun ice cream of the day was coffee flavored and garnished with puffed rice. I do love coffee ice cream so ordered that one to try too. The puffed rice added a fun texture to the mild flavor of the ice cream. It did have a good creamy texture.
