The Cellar is the bar area in the Elderberry House Restaurant building on the Chateau du Sureau property. Stone walls and wood surround the small area that has about 4 tables and eight seats at the bar. They offer classic cocktails as well as invented ones and a small menu produced in the Elderberry kitchen. Open Wed to Sun they offer a happy hour of $10 cocktails which makes them quite popular. On Wed the $10 is on classic cocktails and on Thursday it’s on the Signature cocktails and house wines. We were there on Wed so it was Classic cocktails that we tried for $10. The bartender Jordan was super friendly and with a smaller crowd, it allowed us to sample many of his well made drinks. We tried to come on Thursday but it was totally full. We had a very fun night here with okay food, great drinks and fantastic conversations. If you’re looking for a casual spot to eat and drink, try this one.
Set-up

Food
The Soup du Jour was bean which was filled with nicely cooked white beans and spinach. It was mildly flavored but good.

Sage Arancini came with a red sauce and were topped with parmesan and arugula. The fairly large balls were nicely crisped on the exterior and gummy on the inside. The red sauce was fine but mild in flavor as were the arancini.

The Cheddar burger was topped with pickled caramelized onions, cheddar cheese and served with shoe string fries. It was served on a puffy brioche style bun that made it a bit thick to get into the mouth. The meat was cooked medium and the onions were responsible for most of the flavor profile of the burger. It was juicy and good. The fries were a thin cut coated fry that stayed nicely crisp.

The Philly Cheesesteak was made with ribeye meat, cheddar cheese, bell peppers, onions and came with shoe string fries. The sandwich was on a long seedless bun with plenty of tender meat. I would have liked more onions and better mix-in of the various ingredients. It was good but the burger had more flavor. It would not have passed muster with BZ Maestro’s philly reviews.

Dessert was a pot de creme with cocoa nibs, yogurt cream and candied pecan. A layer of bourbon caramel was on top of the chocolate custard that added sweetness. The nibs were in the chocolate part so added a bit of texture to the creamy dessert, It was a good sweet ending.

I’m glad you said it! Thanks.
Thanks! You are the expert on Philly sandwiches in my opinion!
Although I actually think I might like that on its own terms.
