Katz’s Delicatessen, New York City, 10/17/15

A NYC institution that is now contemplating a second location. We got there just after 11:00 am and got in easily but it didn’t take long before the place was packed. You have 2 options, either table service where you are waited on or order at the counter and find your own place to sit. The adverting of the latter is that you can see your meat cut and the cutter will give you samples of other meats if you want to try them.

Everyone is given a ticket upon entering and the cutter and other areas mark your ticket with what you get and then you use this to pay on the way out. If you lose your ticket they arbitrarily bill you, so hold onto it. The check out line was long but did move quickly and it also appeared that they are now accepting credit cards but most still honor the cash only routine.  The pastrami was way tastier and more juicy than the corned beef but the sandwiches are huge! We could have easily split one. There are lots of sides but we just got sandwiches, drinks and pickles. It was very tasty but probably a one time visit for me.
