The Old Coffee Pot, New Orleans,12/18/15

This place calls itself the “best breakfast in the French Quarter” and I believe it is. They have a small inside dining room and a large covered patio serviced by some really old school waiters. They are efficient and to the point, but aim to please. The eggs look nice and the coffee is reasonably strong but the main reason I go here is for Lost Bread – a creole version of French toast made by cutting French bread thin and battering it like that but then a second fry is done in the deep fryer where it is weighted down to keep it from floating. It is served covered with powdered sugar and syrup. There is butter on the table but it actually doesn’t need it. It is indescribably delicious and a unique version of one my personal favorite breakfast foods. If you find yourself in New Orleans don’t miss trying it.
