Mikes is a small restaurant of about 9 tables and some counter stools. It bills itself as an Italian style place but they do serve breakfast all day. It has been in business for 30+ years with the current owner having it for 20 of those. Her name isn’t Mike but the name stuck with the place cause it was so well known in town. The large menu offers lots of choices and portions are generous. Service was super friendly and efficient. It was a casual place and felt like it had a lot of regular customers. The food was mixed but it was satisfying.

The main plates came with a dinner salad, choice of potato or spaghetti and an Italian bread basket. The dinner salad came with your choice of dressing and one of us had blue cheese and the other oil and vinegar. The large salads were of Iceberg lettuce, with black and green olives, peppers, cucumbers, garbanzo beans and cherry tomatoes. Dressing was in a cup on the side and had mild but nice flavor. The oil and vinegar were a bit hard to mix but ended up okay.

On the server’s recommendation I had the Zesty Parmesan Chicken which used their tangy alfredo-like sauce only better. The chicken breast is baked with broccoli, cauliflower, onion, tomato, mushrooms and penne pasta. It was a good suggestion. It was a cheesy topped round dish straight from the oven. It had a ton of moist chicken pieces and lots of perfectly cooked vegetables in a very tasty creamy sauce. It was a winner.

The Pepper Steak Italiano was a 12 oz. strip steak sautéed with bell peppers, chopped pepperoncini peppers, onions, mushrooms and tomato, topped with mozzarella cheese, broccoli, cauliflower and olives, with a touch of garlic and their special spice blend. It was another cheese covered plate brought out piping hot, but here the beef was dry and mealy. It also had a ton of vegetables that were nicely cooked in the main plate and a side of red sauced spaghetti that was different tasting, okay but not exciting. The cheese hardened more on this one than it did on the chicken. The chicken was definitely the better of the two plates.

They brought out a square of lemon sponge cake as a complimentary dessert. It was moist, sweet and had a crispy sugary top. A good end for a nice meal.
