When you stay at Blackberry Farm 3 meals a day are included in your room charge. Dinner can be at The Barn with reservations otherwise meals are served at The Dogwood restaurant in the Main House. Room service or carry out meals are also available for a fee. At the Dogwood you just show up between the hours given you at check-in and they will take you to a table in one of several room. First you pass through the bar area then there is a large dining room, another smaller dining room beyond and outdoor tables. The tables are various sizes and some have banquettes as part of the setup. There are no table clothes but plenty of extra pillows it you need them. Art was on the walls and no music was in the background. Lots of windows to the outside made everywhere a brightly lit table. Each table was always set with salt and pepper grinders and at breakfast butter and dark jam. Flatware was in the napkin at lunch and on the tabletop at breakfast. A large fireplace was at one end of the room that was also open in the room on the other side. At breakfast the Chef’s Selection, griddle cakes and sweet roll change daily but otherwise it stays the same. On weekends they offer different items. At lunch there were some repeats but lots of new items each day. We didn’t have dinner but a separate dessert menu is available at lunch and dinner. The bar is also available for drinks and both meals we had had separate drink menus.
Set-Up

Breakfast Food

The Griddle Cakes were made with orange cornmeal and topped with pecan butter and a side of spiced maple syrup. There were 3 mid-sized cakes but I didn’t care for the citrus flavor in the syrup or the cakes.

A side of Blackberry Farm housemade smoked pork belly was okay but a bit overcooked on portions. It was one of the leanest sections of pork belly I’ve seen and that made the balance of meat to fat off.

The Sea Salt Caramel croissant square was divine. it was buttery, flakey and filled with caramel goo in between the layers.

Foothills sausage gravy was on Cruze Farm buttermilk biscuits. We ordered an over-easy egg on the side. The biscuits were nice but cakey not fluffy or layered. The gravy was bland without much sausage and no spice. We asked for some hot sauce and were brought a couple tiny bottles of Tabasco but they were out of date. The egg was cooked nicely and the toast had good flavor.

Lunch Food

The Fried Chicken Sandwich was topped with garden kimchi and herbed mayonnaise. It came with housemade potato chips. The bun was soft and so very fresh while the kimchi was nicely spicy but with the addition of mayo it was quite a drippy mess. The chicken was nice and moist with a good fried coating but the bun outlasted it. The chips were thick and crisp and quite good.

The Blackberry Farmstead burger included Benton’s bacon, Tobacco onions, cheddar cheese and ramp aioli. It came with French fries. The hamburger was a thick cut but the meat was mostly dull. The Tabacco onions were small fried onion rings which were delicious and a nice touch but they had way more flavor than the bacon which was surprising. The fries were a bit limp – go for the chips instead.

For dessert, we tried the seasonal cake of the day which was toasted oat angel food cake with macerated strawberries, whipped sheep’s milk yogurt and brown sugar oat crumble. The cake was okay and the strawberries were quite nice but needed more juice to moisten the cake. The yogurt was nicely sweetened but it couldn’t carry the dessert without more strawberries. The crumble on the plate was the best part.

Food wise sounds pretty ordinary. At best.
Yes it was. Much better at the Barn but even that got boring after a couple days.
