Angelo’s Luncheonette was started by the Muzzi family in 1967. August Muzzi, who started there at age 17 still works the grill at the old-school luncheonette that is in a 1894 building. He doesn’t like change and not much has changed at this cute cozy place. His son, daugther and son-in-law all work in the place named for August’s father Angelo. The Biden family are regular patrons and an election poster from his days in the Senate hangs next to a letter to Muzzi from Biden. Someone in the family was a huge Elvis fan as there are a ton of memorabilia and photos decorating the place. The small place had counter stools in front of the cooking and prep areas and a few small booths on the opposite wall. They serve only breakfast and lunch and are cash only (they do have a debit machine on-site). The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the food was quite good. It’s a funky one-of-a-kind place that I hope all will get to visit while it’s still in business.
Set-Up

Food
The French Toast and Bacon was listed as an everyday special. It has “3 lovingly prepared slices of French toast, seasoned with cinnamon, baptized in a light egg wash and toasted, then paired with three pieces of expertly grilled grade A bacon.” The server swore it was delicious and it was good. Not made with Texas toast the thin bread didn’t have enough time to soak and get the custardy center I like but it was filled with lots of cinnamon and when you spread around the butter and syrup it turned nicely moist. It came with bacon but I added an order of scrapple in addition. The scrapple was sliced very thin and well-toasted on the griddle. It did have a lovely creamy center and a bit of spice to the meat. The bacon was good but the scrapple was a local treat.

The McMuzzin was on a toasted English muffin filled with grilled egg, topped with melted American, provolone or Swiss cheese and a slab of spicy Capicola. According to our server, this and some of the other “Muzz” named specialties were added to the menu while August was out on medical leave but with his name on them he was fine to let them stay. This was a fine sandwich with lots of flavor.

Handcut home fries were ordered on the side with the addition of grilled onions. They were made with freshly cut potatoes and quite nice.

I need to visit Wilmington! Great report!
Thanks! Few more fun places still to come. Do put it in your travel plans!
Angelo’s Luncheonette is a local gem that never disappoints! Whether you’re craving a classic breakfast or a hearty sandwich for lunch, this cozy spot hits the spot every time. The friendly atmosphere and mouthwatering menu keep locals coming back for more. I wonder if they’ve added any new dishes to their menu recently. What’s your favorite thing to order at Angelo’s?
Thanks for your comment! It was such fun to eat there and meet Muzzi. I really liked their scrapple. He got a wonderful crisp edge on it. Do you go often?
