Not Justa Cafe, New Richmond, WI., 7/27/24

building – 50 N. Knowles Ave. New Richmond, WI., 54017

Not Justa Cafe has 4 locations with a variety of owners, two of which also include Not Justa Bar and/or catering service.  According to our server they all vary slightly on the menus and ambiance.  The New Richmond location serves breakfast and lunch everyday with a small counter area and it does offer drinks.    It was a large place spread over several rooms and offered daily specials as well as being open to customizing your order.  Country music was in the background and they had a variety of tables, counter stools and booths for seating.  At the entry where you wait to be seated was a round glass case of dessert options and items for sale.  In the seating areas kitschy signs decorated the walls and carpet was on the floor.  There were uncovered window to the outside and plenty of parking our front.  Service was terrific, friendly and efficient and the food was mostly good.

Food

We started with a caramel pecan roll which was a cinnamon roll swimming in caramel sauce and topped with toasted pecans.   It was good and plenty sweet.  The size made if perfect for sharing , if you didn’t want to make a meal of it.

Sandwiches come with kettle chips or you can substitute for an upcharge.  Not Justa Chicken was a sandwich with American cheese, Swiss cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo and we customized it to put it on grilled sourdough bread.  With it we chose the hand cut fries for $2.50.  They were nicely browned but mostly limp with potato flavor.  The bread was a bit over-toasted for me and cut too thick for the sandwich.  Maybe the original roll would have been better.  The chicken was in one thick cut piece that was moist, the tomato slice mostly tasteless but the bacon was crisp.  The big piece of chicken didn’t fit the size of the bread, so that’s on us.  It was fine but unspectacular.

The Cuban Wrap contained pulled pork, smoked ham, pickles, jalapeno mix, pepperjack cheese and sweet mustard sauce.  With it we chose corn fritters for an upcharge of $3.50.  They were a generous portion and nicely crisp with bits of corn inside.  A fun and tasty change but the cinnamon sauce they came with them was too odd for me.  The server brought me some hot sauce for my sandwich which I really ended up liking on the corn nuggets.   The wrap was a surprising success.  I tore off one excess piece of it that had been toasted and then it was better balanced with the ingredients and nicely soft and moist.  The filling was tasty but not well mixed, with most of the pickle relish being on one half.  With a bit of the hot sauce this one became one I’d order again and generally I’m not a fan of wraps so that says a lot.

    1. Thanks! It was! I learned to eat those via my mother who was from your neck of the woods, Easton. I haven’t found them as much in Texas but now they are popping up in many small places in Wisconsin. Yum!
