Home Kitchen Cafe opened in early 2009 in a former gas station location. In 2013 they renovated to expand the kitchen and add a second floor deck. Offering breakfast and lunch all day they want you to “remember, when you’re hungry, come home.” They have their own bakery but also try and make most dishes in-house and use local ingredients. There are parking places around the building but also street parking. Benches outside served as a waiting area and the line moved quickly. Inside there were tables in one part and the other part was just a lower L-shaped counter seating and a cabinet with items for sale. There was music in the background and service was friendly and efficient. If you need breakfast or lunch in the area this would be a fine place to get it, but come hungry.

Food
They make their pecan sticky buns as well as cinnamon buns. We tried one of the former and the server warmed it before bringing it to the table. She also cut it in half which was thoughtful but we’re used to sharing. It had tons of chopped pecans on the top but not near enough ‘sticky sauce’ to make it a good version. The dough was soft and pliant and many layers of cinnamon ran through it. It was good but not the best version.

The Chicken club sandwich was made with 3 pieces of their bakery-made bread with house-roasted sliced chicken breast, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo. It was a nicely composed sandwich that came with chips or slaw but we upgraded to fries for $5. My husband gave it a thumbs up.

It was lobster week and so they had a list of dishes with lobster. I asked the server which was her favorite and she picked the Clawedfather Sandwich. It was made with fresh Maine lobster, all natural applewood smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo on your choice of grilled homemade bread. I chose white bread and upgraded to fries from the chips that came with it. They give you plenty of fries so in retrospect we should have just upgraded one plate. It was way too much food. The sandwich was good but paled in comparison to the lobster roll at McLoon’s. It was all quite pleasant tasting in generous proportions.
