There are only about 10 tables in the main dining room and another half dozen on the porch. Breakfast meals, which are included with your room, were divided between both room but lunch seemed mainly served on the porch. There is also an option to have your food delivered to your room or to somewhere on the property. They really aim to please and will customize your experience as you’d like it to be. Reservations must be made for meals and only people staying on the property can partake of them. It’s lightly dressy for dinner with the lights dimmed and such but very casual at the earlier meals and with all the windows, sunlight fills both dining rooms. Being there in a cooler time of year fires were going in the fireplaces. Service was super friendly and delivered by young and enthusiastic people. In between meals there are several walks outlined in the material and graded for difficulty and mileage. Golf carts are free for the asking and available to use on paved and graveled paths, of which there are miles. Even though it was a really popular time of year to be at the place we rarely saw anyone else on the various paths. Within the buildings there is a lot of art and sculptures are located on the grounds. If you need a snack there is a popcorn machine, self serve ice cream bar as well as chocolate chip cookies. I hope you’ll get an opportunity to enjoy a bit of time here.
Breakfast 10/18/24

We tried a half order of the Pumpkin pie French toast served with whipped cream and Krowley Farm Maple syrup. I added bacon, rösti potato and 2 over easy eggs. The French toast was tasty with a fairly creamy center. It came with sweetened whipped cream and powdered sugar and a few blueberries. A generous boat of maple syrup was on the side which I didn’t get a photo of. It was all good. The eggs were cooked leaving the yolks nicely runny, as ordered and the bacon was pretty smoky without being crisp. The potatoes were very crisp with a nice soft center but not as special as they looked. They were mostly okay.

The Eggs as you like was 2 eggs (over easy), maple glazed ham, Glendorn sausage, roasted tomato and rösti potato with white toast. Again the eggs were cooked as ordered. The sausage links were larger and very sweet. They are made in-house and tasty. The ham was just a slice of ham. They forgot the toast.

Lunch 10/18/24

At lunch they still had a bread service and today it was a piece of bacon cheddar. With a bit of salt on top it was tasty and didn’t really need butter.

At lunch we split the Tempura artichokes with siracha dipping sauce. These didn’t taste like fresh artichokes inside and were heavily breaded for tempura. They were very crispy and the dip was tasty as it added a bit of spice to the mild flavor of the artichoke.

The Glendorn Chili is served as a cup or bowl and is topped with cheddar cheese, sourcream, and jalapeños and served with a corn muffin. We had the bowl and it came out covered in its own cast iron pan. There was a ton of cheese on the tasty chunks of meat and beans. Some tomatoes were in the mix and it was lovely but all you really need is a cup. The corn muffin was crumbly and sweet. It was not made with stone ground corn so no grit.

Breakfast 10/19/24

We had a fresh fruit plate that contained pineapple, honeydew, cantaloupe, berries, pear and plumb (I can’t find this fruit however the server swore it was not a typo but a local fruit). The fruits were all pretty underripe and not that tasty. The pear and plumb (plum?) were quite hard.

Blueberry pancakes came 2 to an order and were good with another pitcher of syrup. Today I got the sweet house-made sausage to go with them and they were a good combo.

My husband had the same eggs your way breakfast but this time they remembered the toast which was good. He also just had sausage rather than the mix. It was fine.

(I tried commenting before, but apparently it didn’t go through.)
The chili looks quite tasty! Was it very spicy? I like it to be tongue-tingling but not ridiculously hot.
Hopefully rye was one of the breakfast toast options.
Sorry it didn’t go through. The chili was not spicy but it did have beans and a ton of cheese. Don’t remember if there was a rye option for toast at breakfast. Sorry! Let me know if you go!
I’m not one of those people who get bent out of shape over beans in chili, so I’m fine with their presence. They’re a great way to add protein, flavor and texture without adding extra fat.
And because of my Wisconsin heritage “a ton” of cheese is the bare minimum! ;^)
I’m with you on the cheese but my husband was not as thrilled by it. Have you ever been to Canoe Bay in Chetek or heard anything about it? Thanks!
I haven’t, but it looks like quite the place! A private dinner in the wine cellar? As George Takei and the late, great sportscaster Dick Enberg might say, “Oh my!” If you go, better make sure Frankie meets the dress code!
lol! Not sure they’d approve of her threadbare coat but she says in my purse most of the evening. I’d like to try it out. We’ve been on a spree of these inclusive old lodges and they really vary.
