The Morning Fork, Sacramento, 11/2/24

The Morning Fork is the product of husband and wife team, Chef Keith Swiryn and “self-proclaimed Waitress Extraordinaire” Jennifer Swiryn.   They are both from Sacramento with lots of years in the restaurant industry.  Their dream was to open a breakfast lunch spot and in 2019 this retro diner style place is just the thing, in the place where The Lucky Café had been.  They are open daily from 8am – 2pm.    It’s a long place with a counter and stools running the length of it.  Booths line the other wall and picnic tables are outside for waiting as they are known to have a line especially on weekends.  Art is on the walls and there’s a stiking piece made from forks on the back wall by the kitchen.  Music is in the background, the lighting is bright and the service is helpful, friendly and efficient.  The server helped me craft the plate I wanted.  The food is fine so if you need breakfast or early lunch in this area put this on your radar.

Food

The Salsa Omelet was a 3 pasture raised egg omelet made with black beans, onion, red bell pepper, jalapeno, avocado, cilantro pesto, cheddar cheese and sour cream.  It was served with a choice of toast (we chose sourdough) and hashbrowns (or could chose rice or fruit).  It was very tasty with tons of ingredients and sauces.  My husband gave it a thumbs up.

Combo plates can be made by adding 2 sides to your waffle or pancake order.  This one had the house pancake which was a plate sized thin cake with seasonal butter and syrup.  For sides I chose hashbrowns and 1 boneless fried chicken with sausage gravy.  This was a lot of food.  The pancake was good with nice syrup and butter.  It wasn’t as thin as a flapjack but thin enough that I could enjoy it – I don’t like thick pancakes.  The fried chicken was white meat as I forgot to request dark and thus on the dry side.  However the sausage gravy was quite good and excellent with the hashbrowns.

  1. If you make it back to Pittsburgh, you should try the thin pancakes at one of the Pamela’s locations. I always get them with bananas and walnuts. This one looks good. I’m sure I’d have enjoyed that breakfast.

    1. Thanks for the tip! Not sure when we’ll be back but I’m always looking for things pancakes. Too many are these really thick cakey ones that aren’t my favorite.

  2. It’s too bad that housemade corned beef hash doesn’t appear to be on the menu, but it’s great that there’s a dark meat option for chicken. I wish more places did that!
