Kozy Korner was opened in 1922 by John Vouras who passed it on to his son Nicholas in 1964. He ran the business for 20 more years and then the building it was in was torn down to make way for a high-rise hotel. In 1992 Nicholas restarted the business with his son John in a new location where it is today. The restaurant has won the “Best Breakfast in Delaware” hosted by Delaware Today Media at least 6 times and been recognized by the Food Network as the top Delaware Diner. On their 100th anniversary, they were featured on the Cosmos Philly News. It’s a small place with booths and small round tables. As you enter the cooking area was on your right and a bench for waiting was on the left. Large pink and green linoleum tiles were on the floor and the dividers between the booths seemed to be leftovers from the Covid pandemic. The menu includes breakfast and lunch items and was cash only. Service was friendly and efficient and the food was tasty. Another piece of history you shouldn’t miss in this area that abounds with historic offerings.

Food
We tried a couple of their Daily Specials. Homemade chipped beef was served on toast with home fries. You had a number of choices for toast and we picked white. The chipped beef was nicely cooked but very mild in flavor. The crust of the bread underneath was a bit tough to cut but there was a generous portion, so you could avoid it. The white sauce that the beef was in was fairly thick. The potatoes were freshly made and tasty but they could have been crisper. A little hot sauce gave it a zing.

Two French Toast slices came with 2 eggs and a choice of meat. For eggs we had over-easy and for meat we tried the scrapple. This French toast was thicker than yesterday and dusted with lots of powdered sugar. Cinnamon was definitely in the dipping batter. The scrapple was cut in one thick slice today and plated with the perfect over-easy eggs. It was nicely toasted on the outside and creamy inside. A good plate.

Great report. I posted it on a couple of scrapple Facebook groups.
Thanks!
Awwww Frankie likes scrapple! 🙂
Indeed she does! My mom, from PA was a real lover of the stuff but couldn’t get it once we moved south. It still not available down here anywhere that I know of. Fun to try a couple different versions while visiting the north.
