Community Pizza and Beer Garden was opened in 2018 by husband and wife team Michael and Morgan Mekuly. It featured wood-fired Neapolitan Pizza, 32 tap beers and a full bar. It’s a huge place with playscapes for children and a variety of seating options. Music was in the background, it was well lit and filled with people. The large indoor room holds the bar, with seats and the glassed-in wood-fired pizza oven, complete with cooks tossing the pizza dough. We were there just after Christmas with family and I think most everybody had the same idea. The place was in the midst of a bunch of stores and other eating and drinking establishments. As usual, when out with people, photos get blurred, things get eaten and I generally get bad about taking notes. However, we did have a good time and sampled many items that I tried to get photos of. The pizza had a nice puffy edge crust and it was tasty but I think I might have liked the sandwich even more. Either way, if you’re in Wimberly doing whatever, this certainly would be a filling place to stop and have a bite to eat.
Set-Up

Food
Tavern Deviled Eggs were seasoned with spicy bacon chutney, paprika and pecorino. They came 5 halves to an order and were stuck to the paper with extra filling. They were good deviled eggs

Fried Calamari was topped with pecorino and had marinara and a lemon wedge on the side. They were crisp and hot and included both rings and tentacles. The marinara was mildly flavored and they were a good shareable appetizer.

The Cupping Pepperoni pizza had a red base topped with mozzarella, torn basil and asiago. It was named for the way the pepperonis curl up on the edges. Thankfully they did not fill with grease as some seem to do. The basil was in large torn pieces and might have been nicer to be shredded and spread around the pie. The crust was nicely doughy.

The Illuminati pizza was topped with confit garlic, mozzarella, oven onions, soppressata, sausage, gorgonzola, hot honey, serranos and lava salt. This pie had more ingredients and a bit of spice from the peppers. At least the ingredients didn’t fall off the pizza like the ones did in Little Rock but I’m more of a pepperoni fan.

The Spicy Italian sandwich was filled with soppressata, pepperoni, spicy cherry peppers, red onion, tomato, arugula and garlic aioli. It was listed to come with chips or salad but our server clued us into an off-the-menu option of fried potatoes. They came fried in a thin dice and were fabulous. Crisp, hot with plenty of potato flavor, make sure you order these. I did like the sandwich, it had lots of flavor and was on good bread.

They offer 2 cakes for dessert and we had a slice of each for the table. The Chocolate cake was decorated with a red sauce of something. It looked like it would be great but it was not. Not bad but it got left where the carrot cake got eaten.

The Carrot Cake had a good icing and came with some spiced, coated pecans. The cake was moist and had a good balance to the icing. Hands down the winner for the dessert contest.

I agree with you about the basil. It’s fairly common at the more “gourmet” pizza places in the Philly area to see those large pieces of it on the pizza, and I usually take it off. It would be less problematic if it was broken up into smaller pieces.
Indeed!
