Next Door Cafe is open 7 days a week from 6am to 3pm and serves breakfast and lunch the entire time.  It’s a fairly long large place with a combination of booth and table arrangements all set with utensils in bags along with a variety of condiments.  Oil cloths cover the tables and a variety of decorations decorate the walls.   Free parking is on the street that it sits on.  Service is friendly and efficient and many of the diners appeared to be regulars.  It’s a large menu with a daily special in addition, so I can see why you’d go often if you are in the area.  The food is good and portions are generous.  Let me know what you think when you go!  I know I’ll be there again.

The homemade caramel roll was baked and covered with gooey caramel and chopped pecans.  It was a really large roll and generously covered with light caramel sauce.  It was tasty and sweet but I might just try the plain cinnamon bun  with white icing next trip.

The Texas Clubhouse sandwich is served on grilled buttery Texas toast that’s filled with shaved ham, smoked turkey breast, crispy bacon, American cheese, tomato and drizzled with mayo.  This was really stuffed with ingredients, especially a good amount of cheese to match the meats.  It came with crisp fries that were fried in beef tallow.  They were the coated variety of fry and good but with no seasoned salt.  The sandwich was delicious.  I’d order that again without a second thought.

Called a daily breakfast special, the chicken fried steak is made with either beef or chicken.  It’s hand breaded and fried, then topped with their house sausage gravy.  It’s served with 2 eggs your way (over easy), hash browns and a choice of toast, pancake or French toast.  I went with the French toast.  The over easy eggs were perfect and the hashbrowns fried to a good crisp while still retaining some potato flavor.  I chose the beef steak and it was tender with a light, crisp coating.  The sausage gravy was a good consistency but not very spicy.  However there was sauce on the table if you wanted to spice it up.  I adored the French toast.  It was well soaked before cooking so a crisp edge of batter surrounded it.  It came with a packet of whipped butter but I found their table syrup only okay,  and probably preferred it was with just butter.  A very satisfying  plate for only 50¢ more than the sandwich and fries.
