Buena Gente, Atlanta, 11/10/21

Buena Gente is a Cuban bakery and sandwich shop in Decatur that opened in Aug of 2020, that started running out of a camper in 2016.  Now it has found a home in a strip shopping center filled with many ethnic restaurants.  It is takeout only and masks must be warn at the counter when making your order.  You wait outside with a buzzer to go back inside and get your food.  The food is well seasoned and really tasty.  It’s hard to chose what to get but the counter person guided us.  All sandwiches and pastries are well filled and it didn’t take long to get the hot sandwiches, whereas you can walk out with the pastries.

Beef Empanada had a lovely crust, filled with seasoned beef.  It was a really tasty mixture and probably my favorite thing of the selections we tried.

Spinach and Swiss Empanada had an equally nice crust filled with spinach and cheese.  It was really good but I think the beef was my favorite.  Both were well stuffed.

Pastelitos with beef was a dessert pastry.  The pastry was much flakier than what was on the empanadas but the filling wasn’t as plentiful nor as strong with flavor.  This one didn’t cut it for me.

Pan con Lechon was roast mojo pork and onions on Cuban bread.  The pressed sandwich was filled with well-seasoned pulled pork and cooked onions.  It was quite tasty.

The Cubano was roast mojo pork, bolo ham, swiss, pickles and mustard pressed on Cuban bread.  This had a crispier exterior and was filled with tasty ingredients.  Yummy meats and cheese made a wonderful sandwich.  Cut in half, it was easy to split.
