The Odeon Brasserie is a French-American place in the Tribeca neighborhood. Offering lunch, brunch and dinner it has a lively, casual vibe. Located near City Hall it regularly has after wedding celebrations which it was the afternoon we were there. A medium sized place it has a high tin ceiling, wood columns, music in the background, an outdoor seating option and white cloth covered tables that are topped with paper. Lots of mirrors are on the walls and the front is all windows to the street. A bar area is separated from the dining room by a low wall. They offered an à la carte menu and also had some daily specials. Opening in 1980 they have long been on the dining scene due to friendly servers and tasty food. We had a nice lunch there and management came by and offered a free dessert to make up for the large wedding party next to us, even though we had not complained. Give it a try!
Set-up

Food
Bread basket comes with 3 thick slices of rye sourdough bread from the She Wolf Bakery. It is an additional charge listed on the menu but thought it would go nicely with the salad. The bread had a wonderful crispy crust and dense doughy interior. It came with really tasty butter so I’d call this well worth the $2.50 price.

We split the Mixed greens salad which had a roasted shallot sherry vinaigrette. It was lightly dressed and filled with nice flavor and texture. Plenty for two.

Steak Frites was with an 8 oz. Prime NY strip steak with french fries. The steak was cooked nicely with good flavor. We enhanced the flavor by ordering two of their side sauces The fries were tasty but not totally crisp.

We added an au poivre sauce and a Béarnaise. Both were well done sauces with generous servings however we both really preferred the pepper sauce. A bunch of peppercorns were hiding in the bottom of the pitcher if you wanted even more kick.

Harry’s Sundae with vanilla was our pick for the comped dessert. You can choose your ice cream flavor and have a choice of hot fudge or butterscotch to put on the 3 scoops that are topped with pralined almonds and whipped cream. We chose not to add a banana but did want both sauces. They brought the generous sauces in little pitchers so you could sauce as you like. They were both terrific as was the dense creamy ice cream. The nuts added that bit of sweet texture to make this a real standout. Leave room for this when you go and be sure to have someone to help you eat it.

This looks so delicious. I love steak! The sauces sound like they would be delicious on a variety of things. The dessert….wow, I LUV ice cream and talk about sauces….yum.
Thanks! What a fun place! I’m with you on a good steak but sell my clothes I’m in heaven with some fine ice cream and sauce. Loved that they brought plenty of sauce too.
