Sunrise Grill, Boone, NC, 12/13/23

exterior – 1675 NC-105, Boone, NC 28607

Sunrise Grill was in the same building as the office for Sunrise Mountain mini golf.  It’s a family owned and run breakfast and lunch spot.  You enter the large building and find the coffee bar and some of the larger tables as well as benches for waiting. Through a door was the dining room made up of 3 rows of booths and smaller rooms on either side of that main room with more tables.  The server area was at one end with an area selling souvenir merchandise.   Art (for sale) and photos decorated the walls as well as a fun chalk mural on one end, also signs for the pancake of the day special.  Galvanized metal was the upper portion of the wood walls and older linoleum was on the floor.  It was a pleasant room with plenty of light and really friendly servers.  Open at 7 am every day except Tuesday they add lunch service after 10:30 and have daily specials.  The food and service were good enough that I’d go again.

Food

The Sunrise Club was made with Boars Head ham and turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo on toasted bread (choice of wheat, white or rye).  All sandwiches come with French fries, which were a coated crispy variety.  The 3 slices of toasted bread were well-filled with tasty meats and crisp smokey bacon.  It had leaf lettuce rather than iceberg, which gets a better crunch and a nice amount of mayo to keep it moist.  It was a solid version of a club with the bread being particularly nice.

The Patty Melt was a char-grilled Angus beef burger with American and Swiss cheeses and grilled onions on their homemade bread.  It came with a choice of French fries or tater tots and I chose the latter.  This was the better of the 2 sandwiches, in my opinion.  It came wrapped in waxed paper, probably to keep all the wonderful caramelized onions from falling out.  Cooked a tad more than the medium rare requested, the meat had good flavor and there was plenty of cheese to mix with it and the onions.  The bread had been griddle cooked on the outside which added another layer of flavor to the sandwich.  The tater tots were crisp and just what they should be.  A fine plate of food.
